6 Warning Signs of Psychic Addiction

Sometimes life can be confusing with no apparent roadmap directing us. So many questions float through our mind. Will things improve? Where do I go from here? Do I stay or do I go? Does the road continue or am I at a dead end? It would be nice to have a crystal ball so that we knew the outcome of the current dilemma or heartache. Whether it is a job loss, broken relationships, an unfortunate financial situation or just plain curiosity as to our purpose in this life, we want answers. The need for answers to circumstances that complicate our lives is human nature. For some, it is the reassurance from a psychic. Readings should be fun and entertaining, but sometimes the need for answers from a psychic can become an all-encompassing obsession.
“There are all kinds of addicts, I guess. We all have pain. And we all look for ways to make the pain go away.” Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Below are warning signs that you (or someone you know) might have an addiction to seeking psychic advice:
1.) Unable to make decisions without calling a psychic
Everything that happens creates a need to call a psychic. When a situation occurs, and your first thought is ‘I need to call a psychic now.’ It might be good to examine what about the situation is causing a feeling of being stuck. If you find everything in your life creating a need to call a psychic, you might need to examine why it is so uncomfortable not knowing the answers. All the answers we need are inside of us. Sometimes we know the answers, but we refuse to accept them.
“Self-trust is the essence of heroism.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
2.) Increasing debt due to calling psychics
A large portion of your income goes to seeking psychic guidance. Your credit cards are maxed out due to calling psychics and even though it is no longer affordable, you cannot make it through the day without scraping together a few dollars to call a psychic. It is best to gain control of your addiction before you end up in bankruptcy court.
“The priority of any addict is to anesthetize the pain of living to ease the passage of day with some purchased relieve.” Russell Brand
3.) Obsessive behavior or thoughts
For some, the psychic becomes the obsession. Every thought is about the next contact with a psychic. Others may call psychics in need of the answer they want to hear. Much like an addict chasing a high, the reading becomes the drug providing the quick fix. Any reading that differs from the expected answer sends the caller into a downward spiral desperately searching for a psychic who will deliver the desired response.
“An over-indulgence of anything, even something as pure as water, can intoxicate.”
Criss Jami, Venus in Arms
4.) Repetitive calling
There are moments when we all experience a crisis in our lives. There are also times when we might need a little more guidance than normal until the situation passes. Some people prefer speaking to a psychic over a therapist. I strongly recommend seeking assistance from a licensed professional. However, if you are going through a difficult time and choose to speak with a trusted psychic regularly, make sure these calls do not become a daily habit for an extended period. If you find your calls happening more than a few times a week for months, it is time to seek assistance in dealing with the problem that brought you to the psychic in the first place.
“The reason many people in our society are miserable, sick, and highly stressed is because of an unhealthy attachment to things they have no control over.” Steve Maraboli
5.) Living in the future, not in the present
Psychic readings are supposed to be fun. When we are not living in the present moment, we are not living life. Constantly living in the future while trying to manipulate life to match the reading is not healthy. Readings should bring awareness and objectivity to a situation. They are not meant to be a crutch or distraction from living in the moment.
“Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.”
Oprah Winfrey
6.) Unable to stop calling psychics
You know you need to stop calling psychics and you want to stop calling psychics, but exercising willpower is next to impossible. Some run out of money while others struggle with the need for validation and reassurance. The temptation can be strong because at this point, calling psychics has become a habit. Realizing you have a problem is the first step.
“Once you commit and decide that there is no turning back, you’ll find the strength.” Marta Mrotek, Miracle in Progress: A Handbook for Holistic Recovery
There are many reasons people find themselves lost in psychic addiction. If any of the above sounds like you, please speak with a licensed professional who specializes in addiction or look for a support group in your area. There are also online support groups that might be of assistance. Above all, learn to trust your intuition and remember that all of the answers are inside of you.
